Roles and permissions for staff

Give each Discord role exactly the rights it needs.

  1. 1Dashboard → Settings → Roles & permissions (ST-02).
  2. 2Add a role and tick its rights: warn, kick, ban, unban, whitelist, map votes, events and so on.
  3. 3Save. Staff only see the parts of the dashboard their role allows.

Warn, kick, ban and unban are separate rights, so unbans can stay with managers. Limits such as a maximum ban length can be set per role.

Admins and the server owner

By default anyone with Discord’s Manage Server — and the owner of the Discord — has every right, whatever the roles say. That is the anchor that keeps a community from locking itself out. If you would rather hold only the rights you actually gave yourself, switch on “Admins follow these roles too” in the same section: then admins take their rights from their roles like everyone else, and only the dashboard, the settings and the Warcon connection stay with them.

Staff checks

Settings → Staff checks (ST-28): when a role is not allowed to do something alone, it becomes a request with Approve and Deny buttons instead of a refusal.
